See which neighborhoods have a higher amount of available pharmacies.

In recent years, many Chicagoans have struggled to fill their prescriptions due to having no drug-stores or pharmacies nearby in their neighborhood. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic now lessening because of the availability of vaccines, people in Chicago still find themselves struggling to figure out where to get their dose(s) since pharmacies have become a main provider of the vaccines.

The map above contains data from the city of Chicago, and displays all current pharmacies and their locations by neighborhoods. If you look more closely, you can see that the frequency and proximity of pharmacies starts to lessen as you move down to the South side of the City. This disproportionately affects an already vulnerable minority population of people on the South and West side. Not having a pharmacy nearby creates an additional barrier towards receiving a vaccination considering that pharmacies will continue to be one of the main sources of vaccine distribution.

Community leaders are interested in seeing more investments in these affected neighborhoods such as allowing smaller family-owned pharmacies businesses to open up and thus increasing the locations where vaccines are available.
